Blizzard knocks power out in Crofton
One of the worst winter storms to hit the Crofton region in many years knocked out power for over 26 hours and dumped 10 inches or more of snow on top of a very wet ground Monday, Nov. 28.
The storm began on Sunday afternoon, but as rainfall. With steady heavy rains falling throughout Sunday night, all the way until around 5:30 am Monday morning, dumping as much as 1.75 inches of moisture on the ground before freezing temperatures turn it to ice, the snow then began falling.
With winds gusting as high as 48 mph, according to Croftons NOAA weather observer Dave Zavadil, the snowstorm turned nasty quickly, prompting schools in the region to be cancelled, and travel nearly ground to a halt.
