Lutheran Church hosts revival, hymn sing on Aug. 20 in Crofton
The comunity is invited to a revival prayer service and hymn sing at Trinity Lutheran Church, on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7 pm. Come and sing some new songs and some of your old favorite hymns. Pastor Bob Bryan will lead the service in prayer, praise, and scripture reading.
The teen outreach drama ministry, "SUDZ," from Christ is King Community Church in Norfolk, will do a special presentation for the youth.
Join us at Trinity Lutheran Church, at the corner of 3rd and Kansas, across from the historic Argo Hotel in Crofton.

Two Crofton area farms recognized with century awards
It’s county fair time and the annual Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Farm Family Awards are always a highlight for the those involved, as well as the county fair events.
This year, two families from northern Cedar County were honored for their dedication to farming. The award is given to those families who have held ownership of the same farm for 100 years or more.

Cross country bike rider makes stop in Crofton
When Rex Reist decides to fulfill a dream, he does so in a very big way!
Reist, 26 and a Lansing, Mich. resident, rode through Crofton Saturday afternoon, July 30, on his way from his hometown to Seattle, Wash.
Pulling a small bicycle trailer with his blue road bike, Reist came through town on Highway 12, having spent the previous night in the yard of the Bow Valley church.
“I got a late start today because the wind was really tough and I thought, ‘Why fight it!’” he said with a smile. “But now it’s really nice.”

New policeman joins Crofton force
Ed Hollander doesn’t mind the slower pace of a small town.
In fact, Crofton’s new police officer says it actually makes his job much easier. “Once you get to know who’s who and who drives which vehicle, then when you see an out-of-county or out-of-state vehicle driving around late at night, you tend to keep an eye on it,” he commented.
Not that the 27-year-old plans to be stopping every non-familiar vehicle in town. He simply knows the nuances of being a small town policeman.

Youth football league proposes field changes
Boy Scout Troop 181 of Yankton was present at the Monday, August 1, Crofton City Council meeting to observe and possibly learn something about public meetings.
First on the agenda was the opening of a public hearing for the application to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (NDED) for a Community Devleopment Block Grant (CDBG). Present from the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) was Jane Gilbert, filling the position of grant writer for the City of Crofton.

School board preps for start of school year
Several hearings were held and policies approved aduring the Monday meeting of the Crofton board of education on August 8.
The board okayed a proposal after hearing testimony to exceed the basic allowable growth rate of 2.5 percent and access the applicable growth rate plus an additional 1 percent growth for the 2005-2006 school year. The total growth rate for the school year will be 4.0968 percent. This action has been taken for the past several years.
