Bloomquist wins at Plainview golf meet
With Brach Bloomquist leading the way, the Crofton Warriors golf team finished second in the Plainview Invitational on Satur-day, April 16.
Bloomquist shot a 70 to win the individual honors in the 18-hole tournament. Bloomquist was 3 strokes better than Oakland-Craig’s Eric Huffman.
Plainview won the meet with a team score of 311, but Crofton was right behind with 312 and then Oakland-Craig was at 313. There were 14 teams in the tournament.

CHS art students collected NENAC awards
Crofton art students cleaned up on the top awards at the NENAC Art Show and Contest, held last week in Crofton.
CHS students won three of the five top awards given at the show.
Kathy Koch, a CHS junior, had a drawing selected as Best In Show (2D) in the Senior High division. Alex Wiebold, an eighth grader at Crofton, had a drawing picked as Best In show (2D) for the Junior High division.
And sophomore Lexi Arens’s drawing of her sister was voted the People’s Choice Award winner. The People’s Choice Award is the artwork that receives the most votes by those from the public who viewed the show.

Crofton man gets WWII award -- quite late
“Better late than never” may not be one of Maurice Carr’s favorite sayings, but in the case of his World War II service record, it’s the perfect cliche.
Recently the mailman delivered to the 81-year-old Crofton man’s front door -- a bronze star - a very precious memento of Carr’s service years in WWII. The award was only a few years overdue.
“Everything burned down and they lost the records,” Carr said when explaining why he received this medal so late in life. On a trip last fall to Center, Carr talked to the service master of the VFW, Leonard Boggs, about a hearing aid. But he ended up with much more.

Crofton girls win own invitational
The Crofton girls captured first in their division of the Crofton Invitational track meet, held at the new Hartington Cedar Catholic athletic complex on Tuesday, April 12.
Cedar won the boys’ division.
Amber Hegge and Natalie Stout paced the CHS girls with triple gold medal performances. Hegge won the 200, triple jump and high jump, and Stout picked up golds in the long jump, 400, and 800. Lexi Arens won the 3200.
Brandon Carda picked up a pair of gold medals, winning the long jump and the 400. Cody Wilken got a pair of golds, in the 800 and the 3200 relay. Justin Tramp got two relays golds, in the 1600 and 3200 relays. Other relay gold winners were Nick Hegge and John Boldenow in the 3200 plus Ryan Mueller, Taylor Schumacher and Tanner Foxhoven in the 1600.
