Crofton cager chosen for Nebraska Elite team



The Nebraska Elite Girls Basketball Club has selected its 2005 spring/summer 15 & Under traveling team and the roster includes a Crofton girl.
This successful, well-known, premier club coached by Jim & Janie McClurkin is in its 10th year of competing regionally and nationally. They were successful last season, winning the U S Junior Nationals Premier 14 & Under Tournament in Indianapolis, and placing fifth at the Nike Elite in Chicago.

Modern Woodmen Speech winners determined



It's the self-esteem improvement prescription for students -- better known as the Modern Woodmen School Speech Contest, which helps develop self-esteem in the participants by providing a valuable personal, academic and community experience.
Students from St. Rose School participated on Monday, March 21 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Crofton in the School Speech Contest. All of the participants were commended by local contest organizers and their instructor, Donna Arens for their involvement, and each received a certificate for their hard work.

Registrations being taken for Alumni Reunion



Plans are being made for the 40th annual Crofton High School Alumni Reunion to be held Sunday, July 3, at the St. Rose of Lima Parish Center. A social hour and registration beginning at 5:30 pm with dinner at 7 pm.

Three Crofton eighth grade students were selected by taped audition to participate in the annual Junior High Honor Band to be held in Pierce on Saturday, April 2.

A recent visit the Crofton Community School campuses by the Nebraska Department of Education earned praise on the Crofton district.

School board seeks to meet "No Child" rules



One of the major agenda items at the Monday, March 14, Crofton board of education meeting, advised the board to take all necessary steps regarding changes in the educational programs for the Crofton school district.

Crofton Man Given Probation For 4th DWI



On March 1, Tim Mueller, 45, Crofton, was sentenced by Judge Patrick Rogers in the District Court of Knox County for the offense of Operating a Motor Vehicle During a 15 Year Suspension, a Class IV Felony; and DWI 4th Offense, a Class IV Felony.

Nine Musicians Are Named To All-State Band



Nine members of the CHS band have been accepted by taped audition to participate in the Class C All-State Band, to be held at the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, March 19. There will be three performing groups: Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band.

CHS Grad Is Track All-American



Former Crofton athlete Nick Suing was among the Concordia University runners who earned All-American status by finishing fourth in the distance medley relay at the NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Meet at Johnson City, TN.

City Council Looks At Adding Parks & Rec Board



Mayor Vern Wuebben commented during the Monday, March 7, city council meeting there certainly wasn’t a lack of ideas for things to do around Crofton.

Crofton Girls Win Class C1 State Title



As the oncourt celebrating began to die down, and the Crofton Lady Warriors began heading toward the locker room, they nearly forgot the prize they had come to Lincoln to win ... the state championship trophy.
But that was the only time they took their eyes off the prize, as the Lady Warriors of 2004-05 became the first Crofton basketball team to win a state championship.
