Warriors win final regular season contest

The Crofton Warriors clipped Boone Central of Albion 70-59 in the final regular season game of the basketball season.
The Warriors, 16-4, were slated to play Norfolk Catholic in the C1-8 sub-district tournament in Norfolk on Tuesday, Feb. 21. A win there would place them in the championship game of the tourney tonight (Feb. 23) in a 7 pm game at Norfolk Public High’s gym. This sub-district is perhaps the toughest in the state for C1 as all five teams involved have winning records.

Girls need one more win to get back to state

One more win and the Crofton girls will be headed to Lincoln to defend their Class C1 state championship of a year ago.
The 20-0 Lady Warriors topped a familiar foe to reach the district tournament finals. They beat Norfolk Catholic in the second nail-biter between the two teams in a week, 44-40. Crofton will face 15-5 Atkinson West Holt at 7 pm in Pierce on Friday, Feb. 24 for the C1-4 district championship and a berth in the state tournament. Whether they win or lose on Friday, the Crofton girls should get a berth in the state tournament, as they have the highest power points among all the C1 teams in the state, which would gain them a wild card berth, but a lower seed.

Hunting accidents come to mind with vice president's shooting miscue

Safety is the hunter’s code and hunting has always demanded a strong code of safety and responsibility.
Nothing else demonstrated that fact more than the recent incident with vice president Dick Cheney accidentally shooting a hunting partner. While the fallout from the late reporting of the incident as well as specific facts caused quite a stir, the underlying issue was the apparent lack of safety involved in the situation that led to it.
Hunting accidents happen probably more often than a casual observer thinks.
