01/24/2007: "St. Rose Catholic Church preparing for centennial year"
The St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church parish, of Crofton, is busy preparing to celebrate its centennial, which will take place in 2008.
“Companions on the Journey” has been selected as the theme.
Several events have already taken place and many more are in the works. The main celebration will occur the weekend of June 21, 2008. Some of the activities being planned include; parade, Brothers of the Brush, style show, and artifacts and quilt displays. The bishop will be at St. Rose to celebrate the 10:30 am mass on June 22. The festivities will conclude with a catered luncheon and centennial program. A centennial video will be available for sale after the celebration.
A kickoff card party and luncheon was held on February 12, 2006. A cookbook has been compiled, which is chock full of delicious recipes and is selling for $13. Also for sale are Christmas tree ornaments, with a silhouette of St. Rose church inside, for just $5. Both items are available at People’s Grocery Store and Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Crofton.
Jolene Steffen’s print “South Shore” was raffled off in October. Tickets will be on sale shortly for a Ray Mertz farmyard print. Two other raffle items being assembled at this time are a centennial quilt by the St. Rose Quilters and a centennial grandfather clock by the Crofton Area Woodworkers.
A potluck was held October 8, 2006 followed by a Remember When session, during which time, parishioners shared their special memories of St. Rose.
These will be used in the St. Rose history book. All present and past members of St. Rose are being asked to submit their family histories along with family pictures. Special memories of St. Rose should also be included. These can be dropped off at the rectory, mailed to Evelyn Hennings at 88375 551 Ave., Crofton, NE 68730 or emailed to Evelyn at hennings@bloomnet.com. Pictures of events that have taken place at St. Rose throughout the years would also be appreciated. Pictures should be originals; no scans. Please submit these soon, as the committee hopes to have the book completed and ready for sale by December 1, 2007, just in time for Christmas.
Mark your calendars for the weekend of June 21, 2008 and plan to join in the celebration.
