08/23/2006: "New teachers offer contrasts in experience in Crofton"
“Contrasts in experience” is the catch phrase to describe the new members of the Crofton Community School teaching staff, both at the high school.
The two new members of the teaching corps are Becky Bruening and Bill Schroeder.
Bruening brings a wealth of experience to her position as math teacher at CHS. The St. Helena resident comes to Crofton from Wynot where she had taught for the last 20 years. She will be teaching math 7, algebra, geometry and basic geometry.
A graduate of Lyons High School, Bruening started college at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, but transferred to the University of Nebraska where she obtained her degree in education in 1986. She got a job at Wynot and stayed there for two decades.
When not in the classroom, Bruening lives on a farm near St. Helena with her husband Dennis and their children Kyle, 12, Kristi, 10 and Kevin 7. She enjoys doing family activities.
The other new face at CHS really isn’t so new. Bill Schroeder is a 1995 graduate of Crofton High School. This is his first teaching job since graduating from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln last spring.
He is the son of former Crofton resident Marlene Schroeder and the late Mike Schroeder. Marlene lives in Omaha now.
After graduate, Schroeder joined the Air Force and spent five years serving his country. Following his discharge in 2001, he enrolled at UNL and completed his schooling last May ith a degree in education.
Schroeder, who is single, will be teaching American Government, American History, and Psychology. He will also be an assistant coach in football and track, and will be the advisor for the Close Up program.
Schroeder, who lives in Crofton, enjoys spending time with his extended family, noting he has many nieces and nephews in the Crofton area.
