03/30/2006: "CATS putting on another play"
“If these walls could talk.”
That saying is sometimes applied to the walls of rooms of old homes, where many families have lived and much activity has transpired. Imagine what the walls of the dining room of a very old house would tell you.
You don’t have to imagine any longer as the Crofton Area Theatre Society (CATS) is putting on “The Dining Room,” a two-act play written by A.R. Gurney, on the weekend of April 6-9.
Performances, all at the Crofton city auditorium, will take place the following dates and times: Thursday, April 6 at 8 pm; Friday, April 7 at 8 pm; and Sunday, April 9 with two performances, at 2 and 8 pm.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for high school age children and younger.
“The Dining Room” is a collection of brief stories and episodes that took place within the cofines of that old home’s dining room. There are touching memories, funny stories, and poignant recollections as people from different eras come together in the dining room. It is the story of life.
The play is a bit of a departure from the standard comedic plays CATS has put on in the recent past. And it is a change for the group in that the actors portray several different characters within the confines of the play.
Performing in “The Dining Room” are the following actors: Janita Kube, Irma Arens, Lori Leader, Joyce Stevens, Linda Guenther, Cheri Leader, Pat Wakeley, Chris Wortmann, Les Parmenter, Sharlene Guenther, all from Crofton; and Aden Springer and Scott Kinkaid, both from rural Wausa.
The play is being directed by Kevin Henseler. Tony Pier, a Crofton High School junior, is the technical director for lighting. Doyle Stevens has provided technical help with the stage construction, as have cast members.
As a Crofton resident who recently saw “The Dining Room” noted, “My husband and I both expressed disappointment when the play ended because we wanted to see more.”
