03/15/2006: "Crofton has six competing in state speech meet"


Crofton qualified six speakers for the Class C State Speech Meet following the finals in the District competition on Feb. 28 in Battle Creek.
Megan Schiferl, in entertainment speaking, and Annette Merchen, in informative talk, took first place honors in their respective events at the district competition.
Matt Oltmanns, in extemporaneous speaking, and the oral interpretation of drama team, consisting of Schiferl, Oltmanns, Tony Pier, Michelle Repenning, and Emily Nohr, both earned silver medals at districts.
The top two places in each event at districts moves on to the state meet. State will be held Thursday, March 16 in Kearney.

Others who got district contest medals included: Repenning, a third in informative; Michael Kleinschmit, a third in entertainment; Kelsey Custer, a third in poetry; and Stacie Guenther, a fourth in persuasive.
The district meet came four days after the NENAC Meet, held Feb. 26 in Laurel, where Crofton had one gold medalist.
Maddy Larson took top honors in serious prose to lead several medalists.
The oral interpretation of drama team finished second and Repenning took third in informative, as did Oltmanns in extemporaneous.
Guenther was fourth in persuasive and Dustin Kathol finished fourth in extemporaneous.
