02/23/2006: "Warriors win final regular season contest"
The Crofton Warriors clipped Boone Central of Albion 70-59 in the final regular season game of the basketball season.
The Warriors, 16-4, were slated to play Norfolk Catholic in the C1-8 sub-district tournament in Norfolk on Tuesday, Feb. 21. A win there would place them in the championship game of the tourney tonight (Feb. 23) in a 7 pm game at Norfolk Public High’s gym. This sub-district is perhaps the toughest in the state for C1 as all five teams involved have winning records.
But if Friday’s game is any indication, the Warriors were ready for the tournament challenge as they got away to a 16-9 first period lead and stretched it to 31-19 by halftime. Though Boone Central played the CHS bunch even through the second half, the Warriors’ were never in trouble.
The Warriors naild 55 percent of their shots and were good on 20 of 27 free throws, aiding their win.
