02/15/2006: "Crofton graduate is Mount Marty College alumni honoree"
Mount Marty College is proud to present this year’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award to Nathan Johnson.
The award was presented to Johnson at the homecoming banquet held this weekend. The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is presented to a graduate who shows loyalty to Mount Marty College, engages in civic and church involvement, and who is an expression of the mission of MMC.
Johnson, a 2001 Mount Marty College graduate, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and History. In addition to holding the City Editor position at the Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan, Johnson is a Board member for the Yankton Homeless Shelter.
His past professional experience includes a page designer/staff writer for the Press & Dakotan, a teaching/graduate assistant of Introductory Political Science at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, a writer and editor for Mount Marty College’s newspaper, The Moderator, and a columnist for the Crofton Journal in Crofton.
Johnson said, “It was a complete surprise for me to be nominated for the Outstanding Young Alumni Award by the faculty, staff and sisters who taught me so much during my time at Mount Marty and who have contributed very much to who I am today. Being named the recipient of the award is an honor I will forever treasure. The college has given me and my wife, Lynda, many opportunities and we both hope to use that education to do our part in making this world a more just and equitable place to live.”
A Crofton native, Johnson is the son of Roy Jr. and Nancy Johnson from Crofton. Johnson and his wife, Lynda Letona, reside in Yankton.
